Castaways under new ownership – come visit us!

The seafood is big at Castaways, and fishing runs deep in our history. If you live here or simply love it here, you’ll want to make Castaways your next dining destination.

We’ve long been famous as one of the friendliest coastal spots you’ll find, with great daily catch specials and a full menu of other mouth-watering entrees, salads and appetizers. Enjoy happy hour or a bite to eat on our spacious patio or come inside to say hello!

Castaways is now under new ownership. 2021 promises to be a great year with many exciting updates ahead.

Meet our new owners

It’s no mere fisherman’s tale that Chef Adam Gonzales and Domingo Hernandez made the big catch when they partnered together to purchase Castaways. The two new owners are longtime food industry veterans and avid fishermen who first met at the restaurant years ago.

Domingo has been with Castaways for all of his professional career, first joining the restaurant as a line cook in 2001. Over the years, he’s been a Castaways mainstay, moving up to Kitchen Manager, and then in 2007, to General Manager overseeing both hospitality and operations.

If you’ve visited Castaways before, you’ve likely met Domingo.

If you haven’t yet experienced Castaways’ friendly, laid-back coastal dining experience, come by and get acquainted. That’s how Chef Adam was first hooked.

Castaways is known for frying, blackening, grilling and preparing the restaurant’s own fish, as well as the catch brought in by customers. Chef Adam stopped by one day with his own catch for dinner and struck up what would become a lasting friendship with Domingo. Over time, the two became fishing buddies, and now are business partners with exciting new plans.

Chef Adam has been successful in the food and beverage industry since the mid 1980s, building a reputation in Austin Tex-Mex dining as a partner in the Serranos/Mama Ninfas restaurant chain for many years, and later moving into other entrepreneurial ventures in the food and beverage industry.

As creator of many of Serranos’ original recipes and upscale dining style, Chef Adam also developed a line of retail salsas, launched a margarita mixer brand and opened doors into the popular food truck business. During his career, he also combined a favorite personal hobby with media syndication, producing a cable fishing show in the Texas market.

Since the early 1990s, Chef Adam has been an active member of the Coastal Conservation Association (CCA), previously called the Gulf Coast Conservation Association (GCCA).

Domingo, too, is a longtime member of the organization, spearheading Castaways’ privately catered seafood boil parties for many years as a donation to CCA benefit auctions.

Chef Adam raised his children on the Port Aransas waters, and Domingo is today doing the same with his young family.

The new owners invite you to stop by for happy hour and daily dining specials at the outdoor bar or inside. The patio is always pet friendly, and half price bottles of wine are available on Mondays and Thursdays.

Since 1993, Castaways has been a favorite Port Aransas Gulf Coast seafood getaway.

Enjoy the charm of Port Aransas over a meal or a drink with family and friends … and meet some new friends while you’re here.

The waters are fine, and the food is outstanding.
